National Family Volunteer Day


Service Suitcase – 20 volunteers

Wee are launching a few prototypes of our “Service Suitcase”! The Service Suitcase will be a way for families to serve their communities from home, by creating handmade items for specific charities around the Metroplex. The suitcase includes supplies necessary for each project, talking tips for reflection, and instructions on where to deliver the items together.
Volunteers will learn about 7 different charities together and construct the projects from the Service Suitcase that will benefit those charities. Charities include: VNA Meals On Wheels, SPCA of Texas, Ronald McDonald House, Family Gateway, C.C. Young Retirement Home, Operation Gratitude and ChildCareGroup.

ChildCareGroup – 20 Volunteers

ChildCareGroup’s mission is to promote, deliver, and expand the best early care and education programs for children, parents and early childhood professionals. They provide a nationally recognized model of care at seven Head Start and/or Early Head Start centers for little or no cost to low-income families.
Volunteers will be decorating the front desk and teacher’s meeting room for the holidays at their Dallas Bethlehem Center. Wee will learn more about their mission with a short video and tour of the facility.

The Stewpot – 20 Volunteers

The Stewpot offers a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs as well as opportunities to start a new life. They serve anywhere from 1,500 – 2,000 meals per day, 7 days a week.
Volunteers will tour the Stewpot, learn about their mission and the services and resources they provide for the clients they serve in our community.

Trash Pick Up with Dusty – 20 Volunteers

Our community partner, Dusty the Dumpster, is teaming up with Wee Volunteer to tidy up our city! Dusty will explain the importance of keeping the community free of litter, teach us about recycling and then volunteers will get into action by picking up trash.

SPCA McKinney – 20 Volunteers FULL

Volunteers will tour the SPCA and learn about animal care. We will color adoption signs with specific information on animals waiting to be adopted at the SPCA, and we will hang them at local retailers for the public to see! We will also feed carrots to the horses!

SPCA Dallas – 20 Volunteers FULL

Wipe OUT Graffiti – 20 Volunteers FULL

Let’s keep our city clean! Volunteers will learn the difference between “street art” and illegal graffiti from a Code Compliance officer. We will then paint over graffiti while listening to everyone’s favorite tunes.

Captain Hope’s Kids – 20 Volunteers FULL

Captain Hope’s Kids aims to meet the critical needs of homeless children across North Texas. They make every effort to provide clothing, critical needs and warmth to the homeless youth. Through Captain Hope’s Kids, we too can help children in our community by volunteering to donate and pack “Hope in a Box.” We will learn about Captain Hope’s Kids and the children they serve and pack “Hope in a Box” bags with hygiene supplies.

Community Partners of Dallas – 20 Volunteers FULL

Community Partners of Dallas serves over 16,000 children in the Dallas area! Volunteers will learn about the programs offered by Community Partners, take a tour of the Rainbow Room and warehouse and then create hygiene kits for the thousands of kids in need.

Wee Symphony – 20 Volunteers FULL

Volunteers will join Mommy Manders for a musical outreach project with the elderly residents at C.C. Young Retirement Home. If you play instruments, bring them! We will sing, dance and make new friends

VNA Meals On Wheels – 40 Volunteers FULL

Volunteers will learn about VNA Meals On Wheels and tour the kitchen. Then, we will pack fruit bags for the 4,200 clients and hospice patients served by VNA Meals on Wheels.

Family Gateway – 20 Volunteers FULL

Family Gateway provides housing and comprehensive services to homeless families with children empowering them to move from their current crisis back to self-sufficiency. Volunteers will learn about homelessness and tour the shelter. Then, we will gather with families living at the Family Gateway to meet a US Soldier, who will talk to us about soldiers serving our country. Together, the kids will color bandanas and write letters that will be sent in care packages to our soldiers serving over seas.

Promise House – 20 Volunteers FULL

Volunteers will participate in 3 service learning projects. First, we will help Promise House move youth in crisis towards safety and success by providing Power Packs for their street outreach program. Then, we will have an interactive discussion about basic necessities and homelessness. Lastly, we will learn about Promise House and some of the services provided with a tour of the main building.

Trinity River Audubon – 20 Volunteers FULL

Be one with nature and help us remove invasive grasses to help the prairie thrive and feed the hungry catfish. Our guide will educate us on the area and conservation mission, along with the various weeds, plants and insects we discover. Be sure to bring gloves for weed pulling.

Tarrant Area Food Bank – 20 volunteers FULL
Tarrant Area Food Bank is the major source of donated food for hunger-relief charities and feeding programs in 13 North Texas counties. Their mission is to empower communities to eliminate hunger by providing food, education and resources. One-third of those served by TAFB and its network are children. Volunteers will learn about the area of need served by the TAFB, mission and clients, tour their warehouse and pack Birthday Bags for children in need.

Communities Foundation of Texas – 40 Volunteers FULL

CFT makes grants to support community issues in Nort Texas and, through the generosity of their donors, throughout the world. CFT educates the community on pressing needs and the organizations addressing them. Volunteers will learn about CFT and the charities served. Then, the children will participate in a “Thank You” note design competition led by Tori Pendergrass from Pigment Art Studio! Each child will decorate a thank you note that will be reproduced and used for donor thank you notes from CFT.
